Terms and conditions, version 16.4.2024
Including pet policy and electric vehicles policy
1. Your booking becomes effective when we confirm to you by email.
2. Payment - we invoice a £100 non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. The balance becomes due one month before the start of your holiday.
3.Cancellations, refunds and no-shows
- Cancellation more than one month before arrival date
- Full refund
- Cancellation less than one month but more than 7 days before arrival date:
- Either - £100 cancellation fee, refund the rest
- Or - we may mutually agree to credit sums paid to a holiday on different dates
- Cancellation fewer than 7 (seven) days before arrival date
- Either - £250 cancellation fee, refund the rest.
- Or - we may mutually agree to credit sums paid to a holiday on different dates.
- No shows
- No shows are not refundable. If you do not not inform us that you are not coming we assume you are at the cottage.
- Cancellation caused by force a majeure incident such as a pandemic or a problem at the cottage
- Full refund
- We reserve the sole right to decide whether an incident represents force majeure.
5. The maximum number of guests permitted to sleep at Sea Haven is:
- Five if you booked as a family
- Two if you booked with a discount for a couple or a single traveller, you agree not to use the bedrooms on the top floor. This is important as it will be clean and the beds might even be made up for the next family booking, so our housekeepers will not expect to have to go up there to clean. The top floor will not be closed off and you are most welcome to pop up and look around... but please take your shoes off first!
You are informed that Sea Haven is a small traditional fisherman's cottage set on a steep hill that may be unsuitable for guests with limited mobility.
- Headroom on the staircase is limited - tall people may bump their heads.
- A carpeted spiral staircase leads to the top floor bedrooms. The stairs are not steep on one side, but, like all spiral staircases, they are steep on the other side.
- The overall size of the cottage is best described as 'spacious' for a couple, 'perfect' for a family with kids or 'cramped' for five adults.

Pet policy
- Maximum one pet...
- Downstairs only. Guests with a pet agree not to permit him/her upstairs, so the staircase door must be kept closed.
- Zero pet hair. Guest with a pet agree to thoroughly remove any pet hair, leaving no trace that a dog/cat has been present.
- Zero pet damage Guests agree to prompltly repair or replace furniture, carpets or soft furnisings damaged or stained by pets.
- Never alone. Guests agree never to leave a pet in the cottage when you go out. All three pubs welcome well-behaved dogs so there is no reason to leave a dog alone in the cottage.
8. Noisy parties. - Sea Haven has a no noisy parties policy.
9. Sub-letting is prohibited.
10. Electric vehicles (EV)
If you will connect an EV to the cottage you must inform us in advance and we will jointly estimate the additional electricity cost and add it to your rental price.
We welcome and encourage EV use but you must pay your own travel costs.
You are informed that we do not provide special EV charging facilities, the power supply is standard household single-phase and you may not connect anything to the cottage that is unsafe or prohibited by law.
11. Breakages. If you accidentally break something, we do not expect you to pay for it, but please inform the housekeepers straightaway so we can replace it promptly. This clause specifically excludes damage by pets - see point 7, above.
12. Changes. Should you wish to change the agreed and paid for dates of your holiday we will make every effort to accommodate you.
13. Sea Haven and Seahaven (!) Your reservation is for Sea Haven, 3 Cowbar Bank, Staithes. You are informed that there is another cottage in Staithes (near the Cod and Lobster) that has traditionally been called Seahaven (a single word) but their agent has recently started to use the spelling Sea Haven - the same name as our cottage. We cannot find the owner and the booking agent has ignored repeated requests to correct the spelling.
14. Direct bookings through this site, yorkshireholiday.com. The prices, charges, terms and conditions published at yorkshireholiday.com are for direct bookings by the owner of Sea Haven. Different terms and conditions, prices, charges, commissions and fees may apply for bookings through booking.com.
15. Third party sites cannot confirm reservations for Sea Haven. The only sites that can confirm reservations are:
- yorkshireholiday.com (this site); and
- Sometimes booking.com, sometimes the owner through homeexchange.com
- Other sites that may advertise Sea Haven are not permitted to confirm reservations nor accept payment.
- Correspondence with third party booking sites regarding Sea Haven should be copied to bookings@yorkshireholiday.com.
